Adventure was a high priority when Kristy and Mike began planning their Winter elopement in Breckenridge. They knew they wanted snow-capped mountains, a bit of hiking and to have a view overlooking some gorgeous Colorado scenery! Choosing Sapphire Point for their self uniting elopement ceremony in January ended up being the perfect fit. Thankfully, Winter came early and Dillon Reservoir was even frozen enough for them to walk out on to the lake after they exchanged their vows at the overlook to share a romantic first dance on the ice, surrounded by the beautiful Colorado Rocky Mountains.
Choosing to elope to Colorado in the Winter, especially when you opt for an outdoor mountain elopement in a place like Breckenridge at a higher elevation, means rolling with whatever Mother Nature decides. Winter in Colorado can sometimes mean 80º weather and being soaked in sunshine, below freezing temps and heavy falling snow, something in between or a mixture of all the weather patterns in one single day. The spontaneity of it all is exciting, but it’s always important to have a Plan B (and C, D, E in some cases…) for your elopement experience so you aren’t thrown any curveballs to solve on the day of your wedding.
Kristy and Mike lucked out with a gorgeous Winter day! There was a blanket of fresh snow from single digit temps in Breckenridge during the days prior, but the sun came out and it warmed up in to the 50ºs just in time for their special day.
