If this year had any specific label for me it would absolutely be the year of the Boulder Colorado Elopement. I have been lucky enough to work with over 30 couples for their destination elopement in Colorado and at leaLibraryst 20 of those couples have had their elopements on Flagstaff Mountain in 2019. I have been lucky enough to shoot at epic locations like Chautauqua Trail, Sunrise Amphitheater, Artist Point, Lost Gulch Overlook and Gross Reservoir; all stunning locations tucked in, or right on the foothills of the Flagstaff Mountain views in Boulder, Colorado.
The Colorado elopement that I’m sharing with you today is one from Artist Point. And I’m telling you now you’ll want to grab your tissues and get ready for some water works, because the story behind Michelle and Patrick’s day is absolutely beautiful and very very emotional. I’m going to throw it back about 30 years real quick – to their middle school days. Patrick and Michelle went to school together, but never really ran in the same circle or were a part of the same friend groupings but they both had little crushes on each other that they never pursued. Fast forward to high school, college, after college and they were both on their own separate paths in life for close to 30 years. This is a sensitive topic, but an important part of their story: Michelle had found her forever partner in life, but she lost him. She was content in continuing her journey and life without another partner until Patrick came along.
When Michelle and Patrick were sharing their (most intentional I’ve ever heard) vows, her voice cracked, her eyes filled with tears, she sunk in to his arms and said “I feel safe again”. It was only her almosthusband, the officiant and I and none of us had dry eyes. It was such a beautiful, emotional and intentional moment and I feel so lucky not to just have documented it for them, but to witness it as well. After their elopement there was an absolutely stunning sunset with some of the craziest light rays I’ve ever seen on Flagstaff Mountain (and I’m there a heck of a lot, you guys) and all of us knew exactly why.
