I love that being a Boulder elopement photographer allows me to connect with couples like Melanie and Randy. Some of you may not know this, but Colorado – specifically Boulder and Estes Park – are in the top 10 locations in the United States for places to elope and places to get married for destination elopements and destination weddings. Melanie and Randy didn’t just choose Flagstaff Mountain for their Colorado elopement because of the epic scenery (I mean that definitely was part of the decision) but they actually came to town for a Grateful Dead concert and decided to get married while they were in town, too! Melanie and Randy both have a special connection with nature, so Artist Point was the perfect spot for them to exchange their vows and become husband and wife. It was short, sweet, simple, so very intentional and absolutely perfect for these two and what they envisioned for their special day.
One of the biggest reasons that elopements set my soul on fire is how intentional they are. When it is just two people getting married every little detail of their day is so them. The stunning bouquet of poppy flowers that Melanie held during their ceremony was hand-picked by Randy the morning of their wedding. The framed photo of the rainbow that sat behind them was, not only a symbol of Melanie’s late parents, but an ode to The Grateful Dead and was taken exactly 4 years before the special day that they chose for their elopement. The most serendipitous part of it all? They hadn’t even picked their date based around that photo, it just so happened to be the same day that their favorite band was performing in Boulder.
It brought tears to my eyes after their elopement ceremony at artist point when Melanie went up to a tree, pressed her palm on the trunk and just breathed in the nature that just witnessed one of the biggest moments of both of their lives. Melanie and Randy were truly present during every moment and element of their elopement day and it is just such a beautiful thing to be able to witness.
