Call me biased, but I am convinced that Colorado is one of the most beautiful and romantic places to honeymoon in the United States. There is so much variety in the activities and styles of honeymoons available that just about every couple can find something they love.
It’s also such a perfect opportunity to combine your destination wedding in Colorado with a honeymoon in Colorado too!
One of the most popular activities among honeymooners is to visit or even tour the many natural hot springs that exist throughout the state. It is easy to see why too! Not only are Colorado’s natural hot springs incredibly romantic for honeymooners, but many offer health and healing benefits due to the unique composition of minerals in the waters. What better way to unwind after the stress of planning a wedding?! So in today’s post, I am revealing some of the best natural hot springs throughout Colorado that definitely deserve a spot on your shortlist of honeymoon destinations.
Do Hot Springs Really Have Healing Powers?
Before I dive in and reveal my list of hot springs, I wanted to take a moment to talk about the claims that hot springs have healing powers. After all, that is a big reason why many people book trips to visit them in the first place. Obviously, taking a luxurious soak in hot springs is just as (if not more) relaxing as soaking in a regular hot tub. Then there’s the added benefit of being surrounded by gorgeous views – that itself is soothing for many! Healing powers may sound a little ‘woo woo’, but it’s undeniable that there are health and relaxation benefits to the hot springs.
The question is; how much healing can they really provide?
A lot! Believe it or not, there is actually a scientific term used to describe the therapeutic treatment of hot sulphur springs; balneotherapy. It is believed that soaking in these springs are most beneficial in:
- Detoxing your skin
- Circulation
- Sleep and relaxation
- Pain management
So if you and your new bride or groom could benefit from any of these perks, you really owe it to yourselves to consider adding a visit to some Colorado hot springs during your honeymoon!
The Best Hot Springs & Resorts in Colorado
While many people love the idea of being isolated in a private vacation rental during their honeymoon, others prefer the perks of staying in a major hotel or resort. After all, who wants to deal with cooking and cleaning on their honeymoon?! Below is a list of the larger more popular hot springs that are either a part of a resort or located nearby.
Pagosa Springs
This town has a luxury hotel with a TON of hot springs of varying temperatures to soak in. Stay in the hotel and you can use the hot springs overnight! Talk about romance. And don’t even get me started on the robes they give you here – so cozy.
There are a couple of other springs in town, but the ones at the hotel are the most luxurious and romantic. More information here on Pagosa Springs.
Strawberry Park Hot Springs in Steamboat Springs
This rustic setting is a complete 180 from the luxury of Pagosa Springs. This is better for folks who want to feel like they’re out in nature while soaking. More information here on Strawberry Park Hot Springs.
Glenwood Springs
Not too far from the always romantic Aspen and Vail, Glenwood Springs offers the world’s largest mineral hot spring pool. Yes – largest in the world! It took me 30 minutes to casually walk from one end of the pool to the other. I love this place. More information here on Glenwood Springs.
Dunton Hot Springs
Dunton Hot Springs is the most exclusive location on this list. These hot springs, located near Telluride in the stunning San Juan Mountains of SE Colorado, will put you back thousands a night. In exchange, you’ll receive luxury service, meals included, and exclusive access to the springs. One of the restored cabins even has a hot tub with spring-fed water in the room! More information here on Dunton Hot Springs.
Buena Vista/Salida Area
This area is only about 2-3 hours from Denver and has a ton of variety and different options to explore for every budget. Mount Princeton of a popular destination, though my favorite hot springs in this area is a small, hippy type place called Joyful Journey Hot Springs. They also do weddings here and have some breathtaking spots for ceremonies. And the towns around here are simply adorable and wonderful to explore. Mount Princeton is a great place for Bachelorette parties too, as most of their houses can sleep 10+ guests and they have several soaking pools and tubs around the property. More information here on Mount Princeton Hot Springs.
