There was a whole lot of everyday magic that led up to Kaitlin and Destin’s Flagstaff Mountain Elopement at Artist Point in Boulder, Colorado – so let’s turn back time just a bit and give you a little peek in to their sweet story of getting to know one another and what led up to this beautiful day on the mountainside for their Boulder Colorado elopement.
A decade ago, when these two met, Kaitlin was only 17 and Destin was 19. They had several mutual friends, but surprisingly their paths had never crossed before until they ran in to each other at a house party. They hit it off immediately that night and continued spending time getting to know each other. Destin absolutely loved Kaitlin’s independence (well, except for when she needed something off of the top shelf because #shortpeopleproblems) and her kind and loving personality. Eventually, when their relationship grew and they moved in together he fell in love with her more and more each day. He loved all her crafty ideas and her willingness to turn them in to fun home projects. There was a spark from night one, but it just grew more and more in to something they both realized early on was meant to be forever. Kaitlin quickly fell in love with how caring Destin is. It was evident from the beginning, and even more so as their relationship grew that he was always willing to do anything to help out his friends and family. He was patient, laid back and had a phenomenal personality. There were obviously all of the extra bonus points when she learned that he was a great chef! After a decade of loving each other, she was so excited to be marrying this hard working man that she had been falling in love with each and every day.
Fast forward 8 years in to their relationship: these two were out on a date night at a Trampled by Turtles concert when suddenly the lead singer stopped halfway through it. He made an announcement that there were two very special people there tonight, Kaitlin and Destin. When Kaitlin heard their names she was confused at first, but then when she looked around she realized that Destin was down on one knee and asking her to marry him. She was completely surprised and even though they were surrounded by a crowd of people with a spotlight shining on them her full focus was on Destin and she was 100% certain that this was the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. It was the perfect proposal and an unforgettable experience.
After a decade of time and building a life together they realized that at the root of it all the thing that they both valued most was becoming husband and wife. They didn’t want the bells or the whistles, they just wanted to be married with a beautiful mountain backdrop surrounding them. After doing a little bit of research and checking out the best places to elope in Boulder Colorado they settled on a Flagstaff Mountain elopement for their nuptials with just the two of them, their officiant and myself present.
It was a beautiful ceremony and we explored the Flagstaff Mountain trails for portraits afterward. They even commemorated it all by sharing a couple of bottles of Corona beer to add a bit of lightheartedness to getting married during a pandemic. What a wonderful day to have documented, I’m so happy for these two!
