I have photographed handfuls of elopements at Sapphire Point in Dillon, Colorado and nearby in Breckenridge, Keystone and summit county and during all of the seasons – winter, summer, spring and fall but even when I’ve been there in the dead of winter I have never seen it as snowy as it was on this beautiful February day. Kris and Monica’s Colorado elopement truly felt like it took place inside of a snow globe with how quintessentially ‘winteresque’ it was. Annnnd yes I’m aware that winteresque isn’t a real word, but for the sake of this incredible wedding day it is now.
We started their wedding day off with a first look that took place at a trail near Sapphire Point. I say the word trail loosely, because the Dillon reservoir offshoot that is alongside the trail was completely frozen (and covered in ice fishers, so we knew the ice was thick and safe to walk on). They had their first look on the frozen lake and frolicked through deep snow together like troopers – you would never know this was a destination elopement for them with how easily they handled tromping around in the freezing cold snow and how good they made it look!
I absolutely loved the personal little details that went in to their elopement day. The bride, Monica, had an adorable jean jacket with her married last name on the back of it and a piece of a shirt sewn to the inside with the words “forever and a day”. She also had a blue heart sewn to the underside of her dress as her ‘something blue’ and something to remember her late father by on her wedding day.
After their first look and some epic bride and groom photos we headed to the ceremony site at Sapphire Point and met up with the rest of their small wedding group of family and friends! They exchanged their vows, sealed it with a kiss and crossed that threshold from being fiances to being husband and wife! It was such an intimate, perfect ceremony!
Monica, Kris and their entire crew of friends and family were definitely up for an adventure elopement experience and after the ceremony we all hiked around the full Sapphire Point loop in the snow! A few of us took a few icy spills, but it was absolutely worth it for the epic winter views that we saw in every direction!
I love that these two adventurous hearts met on Bumble and now get to spend the rest of their lives together! An amazing modern love story!
