Fall is a finicky little beast here in Colorado. It either lasts for 3 months or 3 minutes and this year it certainly disappeared fast, because it snowed pretty early in September. Thankfully, I had the opportunity to be Allie + Robert’s Colorado Engagement Photographer before the color managed to disappear completely. Originally, we had planned on shooting at a higher elevation, but after a crazy cold snap we had to change plans up. I hopped in my car with both of my dogs and my kiddo about 48 hours before their session and started scouting. After spending some time at a nearby lake and coming to the conclusion that we weren’t going to have much luck with color, but at least it was still pretty, I decided to veer right down a dirt road and do a little extra exploring. Was the Criminal Minds watching part of my brain freaking out a little bit while driving down a dirt road, with no cell signal, while the sun was setting? Yep. Was it totally and completely worth it? Absolutely. I found this magical little nook with some of the prettiest aspen trees I’ve ever seen in Colorado, dropped a pin, and decided this would be perfect.

Now, keep in mind that Allie, Robert and I had never met or even spoken on Facetime prior to to their engagement session. We had exchanged a handful of emails, but that was it. I sent over my dropped pin, warned them of the lack of cell signal and crossed every single one of my fingers + toes just hoping that it wouldn’t get TOO cold before their engagement session and knock all of these gorgeous leaves of of their trees and that we would all end up in the same-ish spot at the time of their engagement session.

Thankfully, everything panned out just perfectly on the day of. Let me just tell you, this location is not only a Colorado Engagement Photographer’s dream come true, but it’s a dream come true for lovers of fall all together. It’s pretty typical in Colorado to have only yellow aspen trees. Yes, they’re pretty, but when they’re mixed with these rich green pine trees and some aspens that even have orange and red it just creates some pure magic; there is no other way to describe it.
