Not only was June 2nd the perfect day for Whitney and Richard’s Chautauqua Lawn Elopement, it was also their ten year dating anniversary! Whitney, Richard, their three adorable kiddos and their families were actually on a summer vacation from Michigan across the United States when they decided that Colorado would be the perfect place to exchange vows and become husband and wife. After they passed through Colorado during the first leg of their big family road trip they decided to make it a destination on their way home as well and make it a location that they’ll hold close to them forever!
The morning of their Boulder Colorado elopement we were watching the weather closely. It’s always hard to explain to people from out of state that are planning a destination wedding in Colorado just how wild Spring weather in Colorado can be, but with people like Whitney and Richard it didn’t matter, they were completely laid back and go with the flow and they were ready to get married rain, shine or in this case…hail! The morning of their elopement when the 10 day forecast prior had been projecting sunny skies only it suddenly called for some crazy thunderstorms and hail! We moved the elopement up by hours last minute and everyone went with it. When we pulled in to the Chautauqua Lawn and Chautaqua Dining Hall parking areas it was already storming and raining pretty heavily, but like clock work when the last car full of Whitney and Richard’s family members arrived on site the rain not only stopped completely, but the sun poked out and it made for the most gorgeous weather of all!
As a mama myself any weddings or elopements that incorporate little ones pulls on my heart strings. I absolutely love that Whitney and Richard had their daughter and two sons stand by their sides during the ceremony in lieu of a traditional wedding party. They also did a hand fasting ceremony where each of their children draped a cord over their hands before their officiant, Lisa, tied the knot and then the bride and groom sealed it with a kiss!
It was absolutely the perfect day for this Destination elopement in Boulder Colorado at Chautauqua Lawn and Chautauqua Dining Hall with bride and groom portraits on Chautauqua Trail in Boulder Colorado.
