I’m so excited to be sharing these Lake Dillon Colorado Engagement photos with you! We actually started their engagement session out in downtown Frisco, CO which is a charming little town just a quick drive away from Sapphire Point Overlook and a little off-shoot of Dillon Reservoir. The Frisco/Dillon area is a great option for engagement photography without the busy hustle and bustle that the tourism of Breckenridge brings!
Anyhoooooow, more about these two fantastic humans! Kayla and Jim decided it was time for some rest and relaxation away from their busy work lives at home, so they road tripped out to Summit County, Colorado from Illinois! Kayla’s family used to make frequent trips out to the Keystone area, so they are no strangers to the Colorado mountains. They’ve been together for a long time, but just recently got engaged and decided Colorado would make for an epic backdrop for their engagement photos since they come out here together annually!
I absolutely love that these two wanted to make sure that their engagement photos weren’t just about looking pretty in a pretty place. It was a priority that their engagement session showcased their relationship and the things that they enjoy doing together so we got to have some serious fun with it! It’s always fantastic when couple’s choose to take a really intentional approach to their photos together, because emotion and chemistry in photos shines through so much more when you’re comfortable and having fun interacting rather than focusing on posing or looking a certain kind of way in front of the camera.
We started the evening off at Foote’s Rest Sweet Shop in downtown Frisco (Colorado, not Texas) and explored the downtown area. We actually lucked out with the entire Main St. strip being blocked off to cars for outdoor dining and room to socially distance due to COVID-19! I love that they showed off some of their awesome swing dance moves that they’ve learned together in the heart of downtown with a beautiful Rocky Mountain backdrop. This wouldn’t have been possible if the street had been open to cars!
After they finished enjoying their ice cream we hopped in our cars and headed up the mountain to Sapphire Point Overlook. Kayla and Jim love hiking together, so we hiked a portion of the Sapphire Point loop and took some photos overlooking Lake Dillon. With the sun setting behind the mountains and their engagement session nearing its end we decided to cap it off with them getting in to the water at an off shoot Lake Dillon Colorado just down the road from Sapphire Point. As soon as they stepped out in to the water and started getting playful it broke out in to a full on splashing fight and it was such a blast! (Jim definitely won, but Kayla made a good point that his hands are basically buckets so he for SURE has an unfair advantage).
Kayla and Jim’s Lake Dillon Colorado engagement session is a great reminder that your engagement photos (or anniversary photos/elopement photos/wedding photos/ANY photos) never have to look or be any certain kind of way. Your engagement photos can be as posed or as documentary as you want them to be! It also doesn’t have to be one or the other, it’s easy to get a great mix of both! If getting glammed up and being cozy and romantic is your thing: embrace it, but if grabbing sweets, being silly, and exploring is your thing: embrace that too. There is no wrong way to create a perfect experience for your engagement photos and I love being a part of it all!
