A beautiful Mesa Overlook elopement during sunset at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs was the perfect simple and sweet wedding experience that Mercedes and Jacob were hoping for. They were originally making plans for a big wedding back home, but during a trip to Colorado, they realized they would rather get eloped with the beautiful postcard backdrop that Garden of the Gods boasts. These two reached out a couple of days into their visit and 3 days after that they eloped!
Garden of the Gods is a popular place to visit (and a popular Colorado Springs elopement location) because the views are epic, but even with other hikers and tourists nearby these two were able to fully submerge themselves into their Mesa Overlook elopement experience, feel all of their feelings during their hand-written vows during the ceremony and tie the knot on the mountainside.
After their elopement ceremony, we spent some time exploring the Mesa Overlook trail at Garden of the Gods for even more sunset portraits, including a must-have butt squeeze photo that these two have as a tradition ;).
As someone that has lived in Colorado my entire life, visited Garden of the Gods many times, and seen more beautiful sunsets than I can keep track of – this one belongs in the books. We were able to chase the sun as it slowly dipped into the Mesa Overlook where the Rocky Mountains meet the Garden of the Gods’ red rock formations the entire time and it felt like golden hour lasted forever. What a magical day and a perfect Colorado elopement experience for these two!
Even though it is uncommon to find a Colorado elopement photographer for 1 hour of coverage, couples like Mercedes and Jacob are exactly why this is something I choose and will continue to offer. If spending the evening on a mountainside with your partner and taking just married portraits afterward is your dream elopement experience then that deserves to be documented just as much as the full day or multi-day elopement experience. Wedding and elopement days don’t deserve to be put in boxes, you get to elope to Colorado in a way that feels good to you and you deserve gorgeous photos to celebrate that!
