Spring-time in Colorado is a finicky beast, so we knew when scheduling Melissa + Keith’s Rocky Mountain National Park engagement photos that it was either going to be hot + sunny, frigid and blizzard-y (that’s a word – right?) or that Estes Park would be under a good ol’ fresh blanket of snow. What we didn’t expect was for a day that started out with 70º weather and sunny blue skies to turn in to something called “Thunder Snow”. I’ve lived in Colorado since I was 5, so I’m practically a native and I don’t remember ever once in my life hearing that weather-term, but it was MAGIC. Driving up to Estes Park was slightly terrifying and the snow + wind were insane, but when I pulled in to Estes Park the skies were clear and the snow line on the mountains was absolutely gorgeous. The wind died down completely, but basically every other soul that was in Rocky Mountain National Park had left at this point and we had the place all to ourselves on a Sunday. Those of you that have been to Rocky Mountain National Park or Estes Park Colorado on a weekend know that this is next to impossible – so we totally scored. At the beginning of their engagement session in Rocky Mountain National Park there was no snow and the clouds were so low + heavy that we were quite literally above the clouds (it was epic!), but by mid-session these super massive snowflakes started falling from the sky. I kid you not, you guys, these were some of the biggest snow flakes I have ever seen. So here we are, in the middle of a national park forest, where there is not a single soul around aside from the three of us and there is no wind but there are these massive snowflakes. It was truly a winter wonderland. I would tell you to try to picture it in your head, but thankfully you don’t have to because I have the photos to show how it all went down! I am so super excited to be Melissa and Keith’s Colorado Wedding Photographer this fall of 2018 at The Pines at Genesee!
