Documenting Jordan + Josh’s stunning Vail Mountain Wedding Deck photos was a dream come true. Every single one of their guests, and the couple themselves flew out to Colorado from New York, Illinois, and other various destinations in the United States. You know a couple is special when all of their family and friends are willing to fly across the country to celebrate their love. To be honest, after meeting them, I would totally do the same thing. If Jordan + Josh got married every single day of the year I would be there to document it, it was such a magical day.
Backstory, they met on a train platform when Josh lived in New York and Jordan lived in Chicago. She was lost, asked him for directions and they ended up riding the train together. He even proposed to her in that same exact spot. If you don’t have goosebumps, you’re not even real, because that is the sweetest meet cute love story ever!
Both Jordan and Josh got ready at the Lodge at Lionshead, had a sweet first look next to the river in Vail Village, then we rode a gondola up to the top of the mountain. I actually didn’t know this prior to Jordan + Josh’s wedding day, but it is actually traditional in a Jewish Wedding to have a “first look” of sorts prior to the wedding ceremony – this is where the bride and groom sign both a Ketubah and their marriage license. Their Katubah was extremely special, as the bride wrote the words herself with help from the groom and they had it printed on a beautiful illustration of mountains by a close friend and guest at the wedding. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room during the signing, it was so so sweet.
Their ceremony took place on the Vail Mountain Wedding Deck which has a stunning view of the mountains. Their ring bearer, Spencer, made a hilarious entrance to the ceremony (see below), but the rest of it went off without a hitch. The couple partook in so many awesome traditions that I have never had the chance to see or document as a wedding photographer before, so that was really special for me! Some of my favorites were; rather than having a wedding party, a huppah was carried down the aisle for the bride and groom to be married under, the bride and groom also circled each other during the wedding ceremony before reading their vows and finally they broke the glass before sharing their first kiss as husband and wife! Woohoo!
The reception was just as beautiful and emotional as the beginning part of the day. It started off with a blessing over bread and wine done by the bride’s grandfather. Then, after an awesome buffet the couple’s brothers and fathers gave awesome, funny, emotional and heart-felt toasts, then the couple danced well in to the afternoon with all of their guests. They even did the traditional Hora dance which is where the guests circle the bride + groom before lifting them up in chairs. They did this for the couple, their mothers, fathers and even the ring bearer. It was so much fun!
I feel so lucky that I was able to document such an incredible couple and their beautiful wedding day – mozel tov and YAY to the newlyweds! 🙂
